The government has set Tk 78,990 as maximum migration cost at Bangladesh end that a worker will have to bear to secure employment in Malaysia.
Migration cost incurred at the Malaysia end will be borne by employer as per the memorandum of understanding signed between the two countries in December last year.
In an office order dated Tuesday (July 5, 2022), the expatriates' welfare ministry said cost of migration at the Bangladesh end will cover several areas including passport fee, medical fee, recruiting agency service charge, registration fee, welfare fee, and insurance.
On the other hand, employers will bear 15 types of fees that will be incurred at Malaysia end including air ticket for first time entry and exit after completion of job contract, visa processing fee, security deposit required by Malaysian immigration department, service charge of Malaysian recruiting agency, biomedical, and medical examination in Malaysia.
With the new office order, the ministry has revoked its previous order regarding migration cost set for Malaysia in 2017 which was maximum Tk 1.6 lakh.
The December MoU lifts a three-year moratorium on sending Bangladeshi workers to Malaysia.
