JCD announces committees in 9 private universities
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of main opposition BNP, has announced its committees at nine private universities.
The JCD committees have been announced at North South University, Uttara University, European University of Bangladesh, Stamford University, Bangladesh Islami University, World University of Bangladesh, University of Asia Pacific and Independent University of Bangladesh.
Md Abu Horaira and M Rajibul Islam Talukder, president and general secetary respectively of the Private University Units of JCD announced the committees.
Earlier in September, bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of Awami League, announced its committees at 16 private universities.
Following the announcement of committees by Chhatra League in September last, the Association of Private Universities Bangladesh (APUB), organisation of the private university entrepreneurs, wrote a letter to the chairmen of the Board of Trustees of all private universities.
It was mentioned in the letter that the private universities under the trustees were mainly session-jam free non-profit and non-political higher educational institutions. Since the establishment, the private universities have been running according to their own policies, disciplines, rules and regulations. Any party-based political activities on the campuses are guided by the universities' own rules. Student politics at any private university will be determined by the own rules of that private university.
JCD central committee's senior joint general secretary Raqibul Islam said "Like other educational institutions of the country, general students of private universities are also sympathetic to the ongoing movement for restoration of democracy in the country and the JCD. A kind of fear, hatred, and resentment have been created against student politics due to sick politics of Chhatra League on the campuses. But, the JCD would not bear its consequences."
